Top 20 Things to Do Along the Northern Odyssey

The Northern Odyssey is home to more than 1500 km of thrilling snowmobile trails. These trails stretch past three cities and one peninsula, meaning there are lots of things to do! This winter, discover all the adventures to be had along the way. Here, you’ll find the top 20 things to do along the Northern Odyssey!

1. Cross-Country Skiing

No matter where you are along the Northern Odyssey, you’re never far from the perfect location to go cross-country skiing! 

Check out the cross-country trails in Edmundston at the Fraser Golf Club, in Charlo at Les Aventuriers de Charlo, in Atholville at Sugarloaf Provincial Park, in Caraquet at the Club Plein Air, or in Bathurst at the Snow Bear trails

Plus, while you’re in Bathurst, check out the Nepisiguit River Company (located at the start of the Snow Bear trails) for all your skiing gear needs!

2. Club Plein Air de Caraquet

Looking for outdoor winter fun in Caraquet? The Club Plein Air has it all! 


With many kilometers of trails for cross-country skiing, fat biking, snowshoeing, and two skating rinks available, there’s winter fun for everyone. 

Equipment and bike rentals are available on location, so this is a great spot to try out a new winter activity!

3. Sugarloaf Provincial Park

Experience a winter like no other at Sugarloaf Provincial Park! There’s downhill skiing, a sliding hill, ice skating, and trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, winter hiking, and snowmobiling.

4. Microbreweries

From one edge of the province to the other there are plenty of microbreweries where you can get a taste of Northern New Brunswick’s unique craft beers. 

Here are our top picks:

Edmundston

Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault: The beer from this Belgian-inspired brewery is brimming with character!


Drop by and enjoy a beer around their legendary "La Grand'Table" (The Big Table), or pick up a take out beer from the Brewtique!

Campbellton

Savoie’s Brewhouse: This brewhouse’s mission is to spread their passion for craft beers to the Restigouche area (and all around the province)!

Bathurst

13 Barrels Brewing: Enjoy a unique beer in their large tasting room, while warming up in front of the cozy fireplace and taking in breathtaking waterfront views. 


Four Rivers Brewing Co.: Drop by this brewery’s rustic tasting room to try all of their original creations. They have a wide variety of unique-yet-approachable craft beers, with frequent seasonal additions to their tap list. Plus, if you find a new favourite, you can fill up your growler and take it home with you!


Acadian Peninsula

Distillerie Fils du Roy: Try out their world-renowned and award-winning Gin Thuya, or one of their many impressive specialized beers. 

This brewery shows off the charm of the Peninsula by using names of characters and events from the region’s strong Acadian heritage as the names of their products!


Brasseux d’la Côte: The brewery translates to “Brewers from the Coast”, and it is the perfect place to kick back with a refreshing craft beer in the heart of the Acadian Peninsula. They offer a wide selection of authentic Acadian microbrews, which can be tried out in their own tasting room, and at many restaurants around the region.


5. Fat Biking

Edmundston

The Mont Farlagne Outdoor Centre offers groomed fat bike trails, as a part of the Madawaska trail networks. These trail networks are well-developed, so biking enthusiasts can pedal all year round, making this the perfect winter activity. Plus, you can rent a fat bike at Mont Farlagne if you don’t have your own!

Chaleur

A very dedicated group of volunteers from the Mountain & Fat Biking Chaleur group take care of some of the most beautiful and thrilling trails in Atlantic Canada.


During the winter, approximately 10km of groomed single-track trails await you. Trail heads are located at Squire Green Golf Course. 

Don’t have your own fat bike? You can rent one for the day at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

Caraquet

Club Plein Air in Caraquet offers spectacular trails, and fat bike rentals, making this a great spot to try out fat biking!

Restigouche

Pedal through thrilling trails on your fat bike at Mount Sugarloaf Provincial Park! The trails here are perfect for a winter ride.

6. Dog Sledding

Looking for a winter adventure like no other? Book a sled trip with Sled Dog Adventures in Allardville!

Speed through forest trails in a winter wonderland where the stars seem closer, the crisp air energizes the body, and the natural quiet soothes the mind.

There are a variety of packages available to find the perfect dog sledding adventure for everyone! Plus, there are lots of other activities to experience and you can also take advantage of some regional Acadian cuisine.

7. Mont Farlagne Outdoor Centre

No matter what your favourite outdoor winter activities are, you’ll have a great time at the Mont Farlagne outdoor centre! Here, you can experience thrilling slopes for downhill skiing, a snow park for snowboarding, hills for tubing, and gorgeous snowshoe and fat biking trails.

Plus, equipment can be rented here, making it the perfect spot to try out a new activity!

8. Village Historique Acadien

During the winter months, the Village Historique Acadien is cleared of snow to allow walkers and bikers to use its trails and experience the breathtaking landscape free of charge. 

These trails are open every day from 8:00am to 4:00pm, unless otherwise stated on their Facebook page


9. Snowshoeing

Edmundston

If you’re looking for the perfect trail to go snowshoeing this winter, Edmundston has plenty! Some of their trails include Prospector’s Trails, the Edmundston Fraser Golf Club, Mont Farlagne, Madawaska Trails, and Meruimticook Trail. Snowshoes are available to rent at Centre plein air Mont Farlagne.

Chaleur

Snowshoeing through the historic Nepisiguit Mi’gmaq Trail is an adventure like no other! The enchanting winter landscapes make hiking even more wonderful.

If you need to get some snowshoeing gear (or rent some!), drop by the Nepisiguit River Company. 

Atholville

Sugarloaf Provincial Park is home to beautiful snowshoe trails!

Caraquet

Club Plein Air in Caraquet is another great snowshoeing spot! Trek through their breathtaking trails for a snowy adventure.

10. Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding

Looking for a thrilling outdoor adventure? Hit the slopes at Mont Farlagne or Sugarloaf Provincial Park for some downhill skiing or snowboarding!

Both of these locations have exhilarating hills, plus, Mont Farlagne also has a snow park for snowboarding!

11. Hockey au Quai

Caraquet

*Update from January 11: The 2021 edition of Hockey au Quai Caraquet has been CANCELLED.* Check out Caraquet’s “Hockey au Quai” tournament, happening from February 4th to the 7th, 2021! For this unique event, Caraquet’s picturesque wharf is transformed into a hockey rink and games are played between the shrimp and crab fishing boats.


Tracadie

*Update: the 2021 edition of Hockey sur étang in Tracadie has been CANCELLED.* Each year, over 50 teams compete in the “Hockey sur étang de Tracadie'' tournament! This tournament, which happens every February, takes place at “Rivière Petit-Tracadie”. Catch a hockey game in Tracadie’s beautiful landscape from February 17 to 20th, 2021!

12. Bass Attack Fishing

Make the most of winter with Bass Attack Fishing - an unforgettable ice fishing experience!

With the help of a qualified guide, you will learn how to properly dig your hole in the ice, the kinds of hooks to use, and tips to attract fish to your hook. Ice fishing is a unique way to spend time with friends or family this winter!

13. Les Aventuriers de Charlo

At Les Aventuriers de Charlo you can challenge yourself, develop your physical abilities, spend time with family and friends, or simply relax in nature. 

During the winter, Les Aventuriers is a cross-country skiing, biathlon and snowshoeing center. Drop by and practice your favourite winter sport!


14. Winter Quad

The Northern Odyssey is full of well-groomed and picturesque trails that are perfect for winter ATV’ing! 

Edmundston 

There are over 360km of trails in the Edmundston region! There are also many welcoming clubs, including, “Club VTT Nord-Ouest (Club 55)”, Club VTT Haut-Madawaska, and Club VTT Voyageurs de Sentiers du Madawaska Inc.

Chaleur

If you’re in the Chaleur region, check out “Club VTT Chaleur”! This club has more than 280km of trails that are perfect for winter. 

Acadian Peninsula

This area of the Northern Odyssey has picturesque trails from the New Brunswick All Terrain Federation that are ideal for a thrilling winter adventure. 

Restigouche

Last year, the Restigouche region introduced winter ATV trails that are definitely worth checking out!

15. Campbellton Sno-Fest

The annual Campbellton Sno-Fest will be held from the 11th to the 15th of February 2021. This year, the festival will be taking place with new events, so stay tuned to their Facebook page to find out more details as the dates get closer! The organizing committee met before the Holidays and are still planning to have activities: smaller than previous editions, no gatherings and of course, following Public Health guidelines.

16. Grey Rock Casino

Sometimes, winter is best enjoyed from the indoors. If you’re in Edmundston, a visit to the Grey Rock Casino is a great way to spend the day!

They offer over 200 slot machines, a large bingo room, two restaurants, a breathtaking view from their terrace and a large concert and event hall.


17. Hockey

Hockey is a classic winter sport, and a favourite of many to watch! There are many opportunities to catch a hockey game along the Northern Odyssey. Check out a Junior A match in Campbellton, or at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston! 

Bathurst is also home to the Northern Odyssey’s only QMJHL team, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan!

18. Cafés

Looking to cozy up with a warm drink or delicious treat? From west to east, there are plenty of charming cafés all along the Northern Odyssey.

Edmundston: Café Lotus Bleu

Want an all-vegetarian menu? Café Lotus Bleu in Edmundston is perfect for you! Along with coffee, this coffee shop offers fresh local and organic food, and over 50 organic and fair trade leaf teas. 

Campbellton: Café Europa

Café Europa in Campbellton specializes in healthy and tasty choices. They also have many vegan options available!

Petit-Rocher: Auberge d’Anjou - Cocooning Café 

No matter what your tastes are, there is a treat for everyone at Auberge d’Anjou’s Cocooning Café! They have a large selection of warm drinks and delicious sweets. Plus, if you’re feeling hungry they also serve breakfast and lunch every day!

Bathurst: Kaffeine Espresso Bar

If you’re in Bathurst, drop by Kaffeine Espresso Bar and try one of their delicious specialty coffee drinks. If you’re looking for a snack, you won’t want to miss out on their baked goods, made by local cake master Shannon Doucet of Lekker Bakery!


Caraquet: Grains de Folie

Lamèque: Aloha Café-Boutique

If you’re looking for a healthy option, you’ll love Aloha Café-Boutique in Lamèque! Along with coffee, this café also offers delicious meals, such as poké bowls!

19. Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club - Golf Simulator

At Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club, you can golf during the winter months with their new Trackman Golf Simulators! These simulators offer the most up to date and accurate indoor golf technology available. 

Whether you want to work on your swing at the driving range or play one of over 60 golf courses around the world, booking a tee time at Gowan Brae’s indoor golf simulators is a great way to spend a winter day!

20. Snowmobiling

And of course, when you’re in the North of New Brunswick, snowmobiling is a must! There are over 1500km of trails along the Northern Odyssey for you to explore. 


Edmundston

In this region, there are over 650km of trails that will have you cruising through lush, scenic forests and along magnificent riverbanks from the Maine and Québec borders to the St. John River. Plus, all main trails are connected to secondary trails that will lead you to panoramic views.

Campbellton

Snowmobile along the Restigouche River, surrounded by the Appalachian Mountain Range, and experience Campbellton’s breathtaking trails.

The Campbellton region is also home to the lively and welcoming St-Maure Relay and the Restigouche Snowmobile Club!

Chaleur

The Chaleur Region is known as the “Snowmobile Capital of Atlantic Canada”! Dedicated volunteers provide some of the best signed and groomed trails in the province, creating access to over 1500 km of trails and offering exciting straight-aways and beautiful scenery.

The Chaleur region is home to the Nepisiguit Club, Chaleur Club, and the Super Village Trailblazers Club

Acadian Peninsula
